As well as usual GP and nurse appointments, we also offer an annual appointment to folk who have any long term health condition. This will usually include an initial appointment to check condition specific measurements such as blood pressure and often includes a blood test. This is then followed by an appointment with our practice nurse, Liz McIvor, to ensure your condition is understood and well controlled.  If necessary she will provide advice as to how things can be improved.

We would generally monitor the following conditions in this way:

• Type 2 diabetes (and pre-diabetes)
• Asthma (no blood test needed)
• Chronic Obstructive Pulmonary Disease (abbreviated to COPD)
• Ischaemic Heart Disease (includes angina and previous heart attacks, bypass surgery and coronary artery stents) and atrial fibrillation
• Strokes and other cerebrovascular disease
• Epilepsy
• Underactive thyroid on medication.
• Learning Disability
• Severe and enduring Mental Health Conditions (GP initiated)
• Annual Dementia reviews (GP initiated)

We send all patients an invitation to make an appointment during their birthday month and if they have more than one condition we can cover all conditions in one session.

Child development examinations - a baby check is usually done at 6-8 weeks in conjunction with a postnatal review with the baby’s mother

Cervical Smears are performed by making an appointment with Liz the practice nurse.

Contraceptive implants  - Insertion and removal provided by Dr Campbell, please book through reception (not online) to ensure appropriate appointment length.

Minor surgery can be done in the practice but please see a GP first to ensure the lesion is appropriate for this service. 

Several of the GPs are able to do joint injections – please ask reception who is appropriately trained

Polypharmacy Medicines Review Clinic -  If you take many medicines, you may be invited by the practice team for a Polypharmacy Review. This is a 30-40 minute appointment with a clinical pharmacist to make sure your medicines are still right for you. The aim is to help you feel confident about your treatment, understand your medicines better, and reduce any side effects or problems they might cause. 

The following services are not usually provided by the practice.

ADHD, Autism and Gender Dysphoria diagnosis and initiating prescribing. These should be managed by specialist  clinics who should follow up patients if they recommend prescription medications. In certain circumstances we may undertake a Shared Care Agreement with  NHS providers for ongoing treatment, if appropriate and if follow up monitoring is maintained with the specialist clinic.

Prescribing and monitoring of anti-depressants for under 16 year olds. These should be managed by a specialist clinic

Blood tests, investigations and prescribing on behalf of private doctors. These should be undertaken and followed up by the clinician who deems these are necessary.
